Huey Lewis & THE NEWS in 1987, where both the album and the single were the number one in the United States, and everything they released was a big hit. Introducing an original recording of a vacuum-packed performance in Japan that was realized during the momentum of dropping flying birds.
This work was recorded at the “July 21, 1987: Korakuen Stadium” performance. It is the excellent audience recording. The legendary first visit to Japan was realized in December 1985, when the movie “Back to the Future” was released in Japan, but a year and a half later, the return to Japan was realized. In the meantime, he recorded numerous hits, including the US No. 1 hit for the singles “Stuck with You” and “Jacob’s Ladder”. The album “FORE!” Was also sent to No. 1 in the United States, and it was a revisit that rushed to the darling of the times. First of all, let’s look back on the schedule at that time and confirm the position of the show.
・ July 19: Osaka Stadium
・ July 21: Korakuen Stadium ← ★ This work ★
・ July 22: Korakuen Stadium
Above, all 3 performances. At Korakuen Stadium, which is one of the largest concerts in Japan, Bruce Hornsby & THE RANGE will be the undercard for two consecutive days of performances. What was imbued with this work was the concert on the first day. At that time, it was the last stage of Korakuen Stadium. The last concert was Michael Jackson’s “BAD WORLD TOUR” in September 1987, but Huey was the artist who appeared just before that (by the way, Madonna’s first visit to Japan was held a month ago. I did).
This work recorded at such a historical site is real and superb. As a matter of fact, the recording itself has been known for a long time, but this time we discovered a new Omoto master from our own route. It was re-digitalized. The sound seems to drop from my ears. The most wonderful thing is the powerful and strong core. There is no response that clouded the details only in the open space Korakuen. Of course, the outdoors become extremely squishy when it is far from the PA, but it seems that this work was recorded in the immediate vicinity of the PA, and the core is also very thick. Especially in the deep bass, the attack sound of the clear bass shakes the five organs, and the vivid bass drum kick kicks up the six. It’s such a powerful recording, but it’s a great recording with a sense of stability that doesn’t make you nervous even if you become a fortissimo.
What is drawn with such a sound is a full show that truly enjoys the spring of our world. The climax is clear just by looking at the set. Let’s organize it briefly here.
● Sports (4 songs)
・ Heart And Soul / If This Is It / I Want A New Drug / The Heart Of Rock & Roll
● FORE! (9 songs)

・ Bay Area Wind: Workin’For A Livin’
・ Back to the Future: The Power Of Love / Back In Time
… And it looks like this. The two blockbusters “SPORTS” and “FORE!” Are the main focus, but the large-scale behavior of “FORE!” Is not particularly hampered, and all songs except “Forest for the Trees” are shown out of all 10 songs on the album. Moreover, even if you watch it as a whole, it is covered with hit songs. Of the 17 songs played in this work, 14 are single songs, and 10 songs, including 3 songs that are No. 1 in the United States, are top 10 hits. Among them, “Trouble In Paradise” is more like a selection from “We Are The World” than a debut work.
The mood unique to Japan performances is more fragrant than the Tokuno Greatest Hits in the golden age. This is already the Western music boom. As a matter of fact, I’m the type who picks up the enthusiasm of the site quite a bit, but since it’s an open space, there’s no need to worry about the big cheers wrapping around and becoming stiff, and the cheerful applause snuggles up to the thick performance and singing voice. Of course, because of the applause of the Japanese people, they are all in good order, and it’s very comfortable without getting drunk and getting out of rhythm.
And, a big cheer for many hit songs. This is a big venue, and it has a three-dimensional effect, and Huey’s every move comes to mind. The Japanese MC (who is terribly good at pronunciation) who said “Do you like sports!” And “Do Giants fans win!” Was also enthusiastic, and the enthusiasm of “Summer 1987” blew out from the speakers. It is.
The clear and thick sound realized only in Korakuen and the enthusiasm because of the heyday. It is a live album where you can stand in the middle of the wonderful scene and enjoy the freshly played masterpieces with your whole body. It’s fun just to have such a group of masterpieces, but at the same time, it’s a masterpiece of the era that even radiates the scent of “Japan in 1987”. Please inhale to your heart’s content with this work reprinted from the original master!
★ Japanese MC “Do you like sports!” “Do Giants fans win!”
★ Completely first appearance. And a really great recording. Are there any 80’s Western music fans who don’t cry when they hear this? This is a must-listen piece! !!
