“October 14” LIVE AFTER DEATH “released”

This is IRON MAIDEN in 1984/1985. The Basel performance of this work is the beginning. It was the last day of “Europe # 1” before and after the release of “POWERSLAVE”. “NEWCASTLE 1984 2ND NIGHT” and “STOCKHOLM 1984” are also live albums of this “Europe # 1”, and this work was about 2 months after the former and 12 days after the latter.
This work, which is a vacuum-packed show, is a fresh and neat beauty recording. You can understand that it is not the type that is touted as “This is the tour No. 1!” Because it is not pressed, but it is not the kind of explosion and roar (at all!), But it is also blurry and boring (completely). !!)do not have. It also sucks in the sound of the hall, but it does not hide the details, but rather adds thickness and dynamism to the core. Moreover, because the sound is fine, it has a lustrous beauty, and because the core itself is powerful enough to break through the sound, it is not far away. If you compare this feeling in Japan, the prestigious Kinney is close. Rather than aiming to be a “sound board substitute,” it is a beautiful sound that is filled with “the beauty of the audience” and pursued it.
And this work is also the highest peak board. As a matter of fact, the original sound has a slow pitch, and recently appeared on the net as a “correction board!”. However, the correction of the person who made it public was not so good, and this time the pitch in the second half was raised too much. This work not only has such a pitch aligned, but also has improved sharpness. The sound that was “beautiful, but a little too thick” has been adjusted to make it easier to hear.
The best version is a brilliant full show that brilliantly conquered the first mountain of the tour. The set is a familiar item on the press name board, but let’s organize it again.

…… And it looks like this. And the performance that spells this set is what you hear. “Europe # 1” was a fierce tour with 66 performances in just over 3 months, but this work is the final day. The tension that explodes the sense of accomplishment and openness is tremendous, and you don’t have to worry about tomorrow’s condition. Alice Cooper sang the psychology of the closing ceremony before the summer vacation in “School’s Out”, but this work is full of tension.
On the other hand, it is not a perfect show, whether the momentum was left over or the tour was tired. A typical example is “The Number Of The Beast”. Here, Bruce Dickinson has crumbled and the lyrics have disappeared. Did he suddenly turn white, or was he distracted by something else (such as the audience)? The reason is not clear, but the semi-instrumental state of “The Number Of The Beast” can be interesting.
“WORLD SLAVERY TOUR” is overwhelming with the power of the heyday no matter how many performances you listen to. This is a new masterpiece of a live album where you can experience the full show with a neat sound. If I can go back in time, I want to taste it again, that site. そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「1984年11月14日バーゼル公演」。その傑作オーディエンス録音です。“WORLD SLAVERY TOUR”と言えば、『死霊復活』のメインとなったロングビーチ・アリーナが有名ですが、当店ではさらに『SLAVERY MASTER（Zodiac 002）』『STOCKHOLM 1984（Zodiac 445）』『NEWCASTLE 1984 2ND NIGHT（Zodiac 392）』といった決定的なプレス名盤もご紹介してきました。それらの位置関係を知る意味でも、まずは当時のスケジュールからおさらいしてみましょう。

これが1984年／1985年のIRON MAIDEN。本作のバーゼル公演は、その序盤。『POWERSLAVE』リリース前後の行われた「欧州#1」の最終日にあたるコンサートでした。『NEWCASTLE 1984 2ND NIGHT』『STOCKHOLM 1984』もこの「欧州#1」のライヴアルバムで、本作は前者の約２ヶ月後、後者の12日後でもありました。
そんなショウを真空パックした本作は、瑞々しくも端正な美録音。プレス化されていないことからも「これぞツアーNo.1！」と喧伝するタイプではないのはご理解いただけると思いますが、爆音・轟音の類では（まったく！）なく、ボケボケ・ボワボワでも（完全に!!）ない。ホール鳴りも吸い込んではいますが、それがディテールを隠さず、むしろ芯に厚みとダイナミズムを添加するタイプ。しかも、その鳴りがきめ細かいために艶やかな美しさを湛えており、そして芯自体が鳴りを突き破るほど力強いために遠さにもなっていない。この感覚を日本で喩えるなら、名門キニーが近い。「サウンドボード代わり」を目指すのではなく、あくまでも「オーディエンスだからこその美」を湛え、それを追及したような美音なのです。
そして、本作はその最高峰盤でもある。実のところ原音はピッチが遅く、最近になって「補正板！」としてネットにも登場しました。ところが、公開した人物の補正が甘く、今度は後半のピッチを上げすぎていた。本作は、そんなピッチをビシッと揃えているだけでなく、さらにメリハリも向上。「美しいけれど、やや厚すぎ」という感じだった鳴りをスッキリと聴きやすく整えました。
そんなベスト・バージョンで描かれるのは、ツアー最初の山場を見事に制覇したブリリアントなフルショウ。セットはプレス名盤でもお馴染みのモノですが、改めて整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。そして、このセットを綴るパフォーマンスこそが聞き物。「欧州#1」はわずか３ヶ月あまりで全66公演という苛烈なツアーだったわけですが、本作はその最終日。達成感と開放感が爆発するようなテンションが凄まじく、明日の調子を心配する必要のない思い切りの良さも全開。アリス・クーパーは夏休み前の終業式の心理を「School’s Out」で歌っていましたが、本作はショウ丸ごとそのテンションが貫かれているのです。
その一方で勢いが余ったのか、ツアー疲れが出てしまったのか、完璧なショウというわけでもない。その代表例が「The Number Of The Beast」。ここではブルース・ディッキンソンが崩れまくり、歌詞が出なくなっています。突如として頭が真っ白になったのか、（観客など）他のことに気を取られたのか。理由は判然としませんが、半インスト状態な「The Number Of The Beast」のトホホ感が面白かったりもします。
何公演聴いても全盛のド迫力に圧倒される“WORLD SLAVERY TOUR”。そのフルショウを端正サウンドで体験できるライヴアルバムの新名盤です。時間を戻せるならもう一度味わいたい、あの現場。どうぞ、本作で存分に味わい尽くしてください！
