USA 27th November 1993   Click Image To Enlarge NIRVANAのブートレッグ史に燦然と輝く伝説の名盤『ACROSS AMERICA（NCD 6753901）』。あの名タイトルがデジタル・リマスターで復刻です。 『ACROSS AMERICA』は、まさに伝説の１本。世界のコレクターサイトでも「もっとも優れたブートレッグの１つ」「すべてのコレクターに全力で薦める」等々といった激賛の言葉が並び、今なお人気の絶えない超名盤。現在でもオリジナルのプレス盤がオークションに登場すれば、数万円の高値で取引されているほど。本作は、その大名盤を精緻にマスタリングし、改めてプレスCDで復刻した１枚なのです。 その名盤に収められているのは２公演。メインとなるのは、超名録音「1993年11月27日マイアミ公演」。そこに「1990年５月６日アトランタ公演」の極上ステレオ・サウンドボードを加えた２枚組なのです。時代も土地も離れた２音源ですが、それもまた名盤『ACROSS AMERICA』の個性。その意匠に経緯を表し、本作ではそのまま復刻いたしました。それでは、各公演をご紹介していきましょう。 【メイン：1993年11月27日マイアミ公演】 メインとなるのは、“IN UTERO TOUR”のマイアミ公演。その超極上オーディエンス録音です。『IN UTERO』をリリースしたNIRVANAは、全米ツアーを開始。20公演ほどこなしたところで『MTV UNPLUGGED』に出演します。本作のマイアミ公演は、その“次”となるコンサートでした。 そして、最大のポイントは尋常ならざるサウンド。事実としてはDATによるオーディエンス録音になるのですが、とてもそうは聞こえない。卓直結サウンドボードのように極少のオーディエンス・ノイズ、距離感がまったくないダイレクト感、極太の芯、超鮮明なディテール……。まったくもってサウンドボードにしか聞こえない。それも、精緻に磨かれたオフィシャル級FM放送のレベルなのです。本作の後半には、正真正銘のサウンドボード録音も収録されているわけですが、まったく聴き劣りしないどころか、遙かに凌駕しているのです。 本作では、そんな究極録音をデジタル・マスタリング。もちろん、無粋なイコライジングでせっかくの超極上サウンドを潰すようなマネはしておりません。元録音が持っていたダイレクト感とディテールをキッチリと保持しつつ、重低音から高音までの各音域を整理。元音源の“塊感”を解きほぐし、“立体感”まで感じる。終演の際、轟音フィードバックの中でカート・コバーンが「I’m Jimi Hendrix!!」と叫ぶことでも有名なショウですが、その名台詞も一層クッキリ聞こえます。 もちろん、『ACROSS AMERICA』でさえ微妙にズレていたピッチも正確にアジャスト。究極録音の究極形を実現いたしました。 【ボーナス：1990年５月６日アトランタ公演】 続くボーナスは、「ボーナス」と呼ぶにはあまりに豪華なアトランタ公演のサウンドボード録音です。冒頭の「Love Buzz」がカットインにこそなりますが、それでも約53分に渡るフル収録なのです。 もちろん、長さだけでなくサウンド・クオリティも極上。「オフィシャル級」というよりは生々しさの先行する卓直結サウンドボードでして、パッと聴いた感じはスタジオ・デモのようにも感じるタイプ。それだけに、ギターもベースも脳ミソに直接飛び込み、頭自体がマイクそのものになったかのうような鮮烈ぶりが凄い。まさに、脳みその中でNIRVANAが暴れ倒すような没入感に浸りきれるのです。 本作は、そんな極上サウンドボードをさらにマスタリング。元音源では超ビビッドではあってもやや平坦だったサウンドに奥行きを持たせた。喩えますと、元録音の場所が「まるでスタジオ」に聞こえたのに対し、本作は「ステージにいる」存在感をサウンドに持たせたのです。 そのサウンドで描かれるのは、今まさに歴史を塗り替えようとしているNIRVANA。録音された「1990年５月６日」は、かの『NEVERMIND』制作が始まったばかりにあたり、歴史的革命作をモノにしようとするバンド・ポテンシャルが脳ミソに流し込まれるサウンドボード・アルバムなのです。 最後のオリジナル・アルバム『IN UTERO』で全米を回り始めたばかりのNIRVANAと、『NEVERMIND』目前のNIRVANA。『ACROSS AMERICA』は、まったく違う時期ながら頂点的な２つの記録を世に広めた大名盤でした。本作は、そんなカリスマ・アルバムを精緻に、しかし決して本質を変えずに磨き上げた２枚組です。ブートレッグ史に刻まれた大傑作、その最高峰バージョン。ぜひ、この機会に永久保存プレスCDでお楽しみください。 Disc 1(73:28) 1.
